<DT> <B>ABAPA Freer</B> Issue 8 January '94
<DD>An abberant APA, where participants may eventually get paid,
about freedoms (personal and financial) and locations that
encorrage them. The purpose of the magazine is to explore the
various locals and offer advice on selecting one that best suits
one's needs.<P>
I really liked Pat's rating of all the states in how they rate in
freeness. What was most scary were the bottom states and the
reasons why. AL, FL, GA, MI, OR, and SC all rate at the bottom.
The discussion of the new language of Esportal was most
intriging. Chris Johnson reported on the sales tax of Oregon.
Several reprints too. <P>
A very useful publication for Liberatrians on the move.<P>

blackmailing New York City to cough up $125 million taxpayer
dollars to improve Yankee Stadium. There's a rational look at

<DD>Serious commentary on policy issues from a group of academics
with roots in the peace and justice wing of the Catholic
church.<P>
This issue takes on the "Information Superhighway" and what it
means for television. It's good to see that not only the
cybergeeks are starting to see the promise and dangers of the
impending marriage between the boob tube and the computer. David
Bollier's policy goals: full First Amendment protection in the
emerging digital media, the creation of local and regional
telecommunications networks to strengthen rather than weaken
local communities, and an open and competitive telecommunications
marketplace.<P>

from Horowitz and Collier, the radical right's favorite former
hippies. <P>
In this issue Senator Bob Dole takes on Barney the dinosaur,
along with Pacifica Radio. Lots of behind-the-scenes gossip
about NPR personalities, including the professional ethics of
star reporter Nina Totenberg. A long essay on the mythical
independence of independent filmmaking, and political news from
the NEH and NEA (luridly illustrated with nasty photos like
"Testicle Stretch with the Possibility of a Crushed Face" by
Joel-Peter Wilkin).<P>

<DD>For the latest on who's trying to supress our first amendment
rights check this out. Book seizures, books bans, putting blinds
over murals, and even, good grief, getting rid of bare breasts in
the "Where's Waldo?" puzzles! <P>
After eight years and three million dollars Phil Harvey won his
fight against a crusade originally set up by that fascist pig Ed
Meese. More bad news of attacks from the Right on our nation's
libraries.<P>

liberty Vol 3 Issue 4 April, 1994
<DD>Imagine _The Realist_ with a Libertarian perspective and
you've got _Claustrophobia_<P>
For some time now, _Claustrophobia_ has been bravely championing
a rather politically-incorrect cause, that of parents being
wrongly accused of child abuse. This issue has a few horror
stories. Plus an interesting take on personal self-defense as a
very important reason to defend the 2nd Amendment (think: "911
Is a Joke"), news, reviews and commentary. <P>

which makes it interesting, and it also makes it harder to ignore
just how sick our world is becoming.<P>

stuff on animal research, the Riot Grrrl scene, Larry Kramer on
AIDS, nuclear waste, the Christian church's persecution of
witches, anorexia (with photos of Barbie doll barfing in the
john), illegal bear hunting in China, periods are big business,
and much more.<P>

Vol 8 Issue 1 January, 1994
<DD>Hey, a Libertarian zine that discusses *tactics*! _youth
connection_ is included with this zine.<P>
Most of this issue is devoted to the third part "Hit'em where
they ain't" campaign, where the LP presidential candidate should
concentrate on New Hampshire *after* everyone else leaves the
state. I say great, but they should also campaign in Neveda,
Maine and Alaska - states with proportionally high numbers of
Libertarians and little (if any) attention from the candidates of
The Party. Plus a look at animal rights (c.f. _Live and Let
Live_ - the capital-L Libertarian animal rights zine), UNLV as
*the* university for libertarians, and lots of encouraging
student news from around the US and the world.<P>

global corporations and New World Order governments that are
responsible for creating war atrocities.<P>
What a great headline -- "The IMF: The International Manipulation

also expose the "killing fields" of Haiti, inform us about
allocation of geostationary satellite locations, and gave us

<DT> <B>Republican Liberty</B>: Caucus Newsletter Vol 5 Issue 1
February, 1994
<DD>Latest propaganda from Republicans who generally pretend to
be stealth Libertarians.<P>
For some reason, their 1994 "Liberty Index" - based upon some
perversion of Mr. Nolan's chart - uses 1992 roll call votes, so
most of the people listed are either out of office or retiring
this year. They're still anti-relegalization, proposing
"alternatives" to the Drug War, like re-education camps. Oh, how
*libertarian* of them. Plus no word on the Mike Diana case, even
though they're in Florida and claim to be pro-Free Speech.<P>
Just consider that the RLC considers Pierre "Mandatory drug
testing for everyone" DuPont, Jesse Helms and William Dannemayer
as "libertarian."<P>

<DT> <B>Sound Off</B> Issue 4
<DD>A *really* intelligent anarchist zine. Dan's got a firm
grasp on the failings of the current methods of politics and on
the potential of anarchy.<P>
It's been a while since the last issue (almost a year) but it was
certainly worth the wait. Dan expanded *SO* from a small digest
to a big tabloid. An impressive move. I enjoyed the non-PC rant
about the double standards that people about flimsy judicial
actions. The piece about NAFTA exposed it as legislation that
will result in serious loosening of environmental restrictions.
Also a historical look at the plight of Leonard Peltier.
Resources and reviews too.<P>

<DD>"To work for an America where no one is forced to apply for,

past abuses, and future 'uses' of Social Security Numbers and the
Social Security System.<P>
More scary news about how national health care and any associated
cards could supercede the SSN as the universal identity number.
There's also a serious look at the biblical Book of Revelations
and the SSN along with a rather obscure case involving a devout
family and their refusal to get SSNs. The good news is the
finding of a Tennessee court that federal taxes by individuals
are voluntary payments.<P>

<DT> <B>Zapatistas: Spreading Hope</B>: by Marc Cooper Issue 30 Feb.
'94
Now that NAFTA is chugging along at full speed -- what do we as
Americans belive the Mexican people feel about the new agreement?
Back in January of this year the Zapatistas (a revolutionary
group) created an insurgency, occupying the local city hall, in
the prosperous city of San Cristobal. They weren't calling for
marxism -- they wanted economic justice and democracy. Things
that just haven't existed in Mexico for 60 years -- and will have
less chance now that the Mexican government is in control of
NAFTA. This exciting pamphlet explains how NAFTA will really
effect the Mexican people and what the EZLN (Zapatista Army of
National Liberation) what to do to improve things. There's a
complete journalistic documentation of the events and several
comminiques and declarations from the EZLN. <P>

<DT> <B>out of step</B> Vol 3 Issue 4 April, 1994
<DD>A fiesty zine of libertarian ideals.<P>
This issue leads with a rather apt exerpt from Mark Twain's "The
Drift Toward Centralized Power." America *is* becoming a
monarchist state, though the alphabet soup of burreaucracies has
replaced the "noble" bloodlines of a traditional monarchy.
There's further evidence, supported by a leaked report from
British Intelligence (well, as if *they* could be trusted) that
Bill Clinton might be on the edge of a psychotic episode.
Exerpts from _Spy_ and _Reason_ on a slew of atrocities commited
by the BATF, a list of political phrases that inevitably lead to
a tax hike, and L. Neil Smith's eloquent warning of coming
*middle-class* revolution. If you did some digging for history
class, you'd know that most successful revolutions were initiated
by the middle class.<P>
